Changing the end dates of a fiscal year

We are currently a March 31 year-end but the owners are changing this to a December 31 year-end, effective April 1st. So we will have a short year. My question is, how can I change the end date to my fiscal year 2016. It's set to end March 31, 2017 but have to change it to December 31, 2016.
