Finding and setting postingperiod

Hello all,

Is it possible to find and set corresponding postingPeriod on an invoice for a given month and year?  What would be the Record Type for postingPeriod.
It appears like if you know the internal Id of the period you can set it. If you don't set it, NetSuite defaulting it to current period.
