getAll throwing exception

I need to retrieve all the salesTaxItems we have set-up in order to track down detailed tax rates but my port.getAll(GetAllRecordType.salesTaxItem) throws this after 3 minutes (everytime):

java.net.SocketException: Connection reset

There are a lot of tax items (over 8000) but I have the timeout set to 2 hours.  Is getAll() not suitable for such a large data set?
