Join between an Account and Notes

I am looking at doing a search for a particular Account and I want to find some 'sub fields' of that Account.  For example, I found an Account and I want to see if there are any Notes associated to it, what is the best method for this?

I've noticed a method of 'usernotesJoin' under a customerSearch object but I haven't quite gotten this to work.  Anyone had any luck with this?
