Create Matrix items using SOAP

How do I create matrix items and sub-items using SOAP/Web Services.  I can't seem to find any info about that.  Hopefully it's possible and I'm just not looking in the right places.

I can successfully create regular inventory items.  What do I have to do differently to create matrix items?
