Search Keywords item field not working on webstore when populated via web services

We are experiencing a problem where if the 'search keywords' (Field ID: searchkeywords) field on an item record is populated via web services, this field is not picked up by a site search (standard NetSuite site search - non-customised) in the webstore and returns no items in the results. However, if we manually input the search keywords in that field using the NetSuite UI, the webstore picks up those keywords and works as normal, returning item matches.

I have a case filed with support - Case No: #938702 - and I am suspecting this is a defect.
