Access Item Barcode from Sales Order Item List

I'm trying to put together an in-house barcode scanning and order fulfillment system, but I seem to have hit a snag in the sense that there is no way that I can see to access barcode data for items.

I've looked at the SuiteTalk developer guide, the Schema Browser and the Object Browser in Visual Studio, but I haven't been able to find anything related to the actual barcode for items.  Is there any way to get this information?
