Pulling data using NS web services

Hi,

I have come to a situation, where NetSuite needs to pull the data from the webservices and create/update those records in NetSuite. I am now wondering if NetSuite has already prebuilt webservices/scripts in place to pull records. How does the pulling operation works in NetSuite (in a layman language)?

Appreciate your thoughts/inputs; as I am new to NetSuite integration works.
