Problems Initializing Item Fulfillments?

Is anyone else experiencing issues with initializing item fulfillments?

My code has been working for months and over the weekend it began to fail and trigger the following response: 

<platformCore:code>INVALID_INITIALIZE_REF</platformCore:code>  <platformCore:message>You have an invalid sales order 1234567 or the order is already closed.</platformCore:message>


The immediate web services call prior is a successful get of the sales order in question. The sales order ID referenced in the error is created properly and is open.

I am at a loss as to why this is occurring, any ideas?
