Coupon Codes with PHP Toolkit

Has anyone been able to pass a coupon code from an external site to a NS transaction using the PHP 2012_2 SOAP interface? 

We can create coupon codes and use them within NS with no problems, but are having no luck trying to populate the transaction field "couponcode" from outside.
