Issues Saving New Customer: URL value raises error and not saving custom field value

I have two issues when attempting to save a new customer record:

1. If the customer object has a value specified for the url, the following error is raised: "You have entered an Invalid Field Value www.domin.com for the following field: url"
2. When I specify the value for a custom field, the value is not saved.

Related info: 
If I do not specify a url, the record will save just find; however, even though i have specified a value for the custom field, that value does not get saved to the new record.
