Setting Sales Order Custom Fields using SOAP

We're pretty new to SuiteTalk here. We are able to create sales orders and update them, but we are having a problem setting custom field values on sales orders. It's acting as if the custom field doesn't exist when we try. Here's an example where we try to set a custom text field to "TEST":
