URL to take a visitor direct to the shopping basket - prepopulated with an Item Order

Does any one know if it is possible to create a hyperlink (e.g. a URL with parameters) that takes you straight to the shopping cart - pre-populated with a product item.
If so - how?
Here is what we want to do. We have a marketing campaign that sends people daily emails with links to a free video offering advice relating to one of our products. These links go to an information page displaying a product video. If they are interested - then rather than taking them to the product page from where they would click the check out button (too many clicks & a potential distraction) - as they have decided to buy, we want to take them straight to the shopping basket (from where they can link back to the item if necessary).
