Set up domain name - help needed

I want to have a domain we own be the domain name for our store.  I followed the directions in the help file and it does not work.  I think I know where my problem in that the directions say "Ask your hostmaster to point your domain name to shopping.netsuite.com", which we have done.  But that makes no sense to me as if I just type that into a browser it get me nothing as how could it possibly know to point to our store from that.
