New Published Saved Search not working

I decided a long time ago that I didn't like the way saved searches appear on my site, so I haven't done one in a long time. I realllllly want to publish a list of new inventory items, though, so I'm trying again. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if this is really a problem. Here's what I've done (and my result)

- I've created a saved search.

- Next, I need to Publish my saved search (right?)

- Go to "Publish Saved Search", NEW

- Name it with a unique name, select my new saved search, select a category to display it under. I'd like to apply category and item list templates, but I'm not even gonna bother with that for the moment.
