override "height=85"?

I found a suggestion in another thread on how to overcome this hard-coded minimum height for categories, but it didn't work (was a pretty old thread, perhaps outdated workaround?)

How can I get rid of this?   We've got a lot of categories that don't need image thumbnails, and this minimum height dictated within the NS-generated part of the themes is pretty silly.

How do I get rid of this minimum height?  Anyone?
