Importing Sales Orders (example from Channel Advisor)

We use Channel Advisor for our Amazon and eBay integrations.  I know a number of other NS ecommerce businesses do. 

I want to be able to import sales orders from the spreadsheet export of Sales orders that we can download from Channel Advisor.  However, this does not seem to be easy

1) Is anyone else doing this successfully

2) There seems to be a number of issues that make this process hard
[LIST]I suspect an order can only be imported if it has an existing customer.  Can anyone confirm?  If so how do you identify the customer given that we only have the customer name.[/LIST]
