Unable to log in for checkout

We are trying to set up our website to feature an online store but we keep running in to an error (when we go through checkout) where netsuite doesn't let the user log in.

The error message it gives is;
"Your account has been disabled. You are not permitted to log in."

If we attempt to register as a new user we get the exact same error message. Is there some setting that we need to have enabled? If anybody knows how to get around this please let me know.
