Matrix Options Availability on Item Drilldown

Is there a way to display the availability status of an item's matrix options on the item drill-down page?

Customers like to have a more immediate confirmation of whether or not something is in stock or not.

I know of a Netsuite site that does this already, but they've built their site using the WSDK

Example:
https://www.upperplaygroundstore.com/catalog/item/the_date_farmers01_299

So I was wondering if anyone knew how to approach this for a regular Netsuite site with advanced customization features enabled. How about it?
