Creating subscription model for products

Has anyone created a "product of the month" type offering with Netsuite? Ideally, we'd like to be able to offer something that is purchased once, and each month (or week or some other regular period) a product is fulfilled.

Would it make sense to do this as an inventory item or kit, and have it on our site and we handle the fullfillment somewhat manually?
