Partner Code Pass Through URL for Store

I want to be able to give our partners a promotional url that they can give to their customers.  The customer will go to the promotional url and be directed to our web store.  I cannot get the partner code to pass through to the customer when they register as a shopper.  Am I missing something or is this not possible?
