Are related item groups working?

I'm just getting round to set up related items for the first time on our website.  I've created a new related item group - 'Product related to x'. Now, on the item record, I'm expecting to be able to choose that group on the 'Related Items' tab, no?  Well, it's not there, I'm only able to select individual items and/or website categories.
