Global Search MPN?

All my products have a manufacturers part number and many have an EAN, I display the MPN on the web page but not the EAN. Neither of these fields can be used using global search, so if a customer arrives on my site and enters a manufacturers product code the get "No results".

Is there an easy way to get the MPN and EAN(bar code) to produce results on the web store?
