Renamed Item - All Store Data Lost! How to Recover?

We renamed an Item and all associated Store information was lost.  Is it possible to recover the lost data?  If I go back to the old name will the data re-appear?  There must be a hidden Item ID that could be reset.

At this point I am a bit fearful to make any changes.
