Different Shipping Costs for Different Items

We want to offer a large, volume item kit, however the weight is about 1,500 lbs. We use UPS real time rates, but obviously it would not work with this product, so we want to offer a flat rate for this item.

I cant figure out how to offer only flat rate on specific products and real time rates for everything else.

From looking through the help documents, it looks like this is impossible? Will we have to wait for scriptable checkout?
