Should we use USPS (with Encidia) and/or FedEx?

Hi,
Right now we don't charge shipping (we build it in to our costs), but our management would like to start charging for shipping separately.  I'm drawing up information to help them decide the best method to use (flat rate per item, by weight linked to the shipper, etc). 

Management is leaning towards using USPS and FedEx to do real-time rates.  Is there a way to do both & offer the customer a choice showing the different prices they would pay?  I've seen some threads wishing for that, but they are a few years old, and I'm wondering if that is available now.
