Forcing webstore item to add another item automatically or getting item groups on web

We have a big tax problem with our kits as one element is taxable and the rest arent and the kit only recognizes one tax level.

We have thought of seperating out the taxable item and trying to get it to auto-add to the cart every time someone selects the kit (now all non-taxable).    Is this possible?

Or is there any way to trick or script item groups to appears on the webstore?
