Kit Tax Disaster

We just learned, as we launch a pilot today that our single taxable kit component is not going to work via the website since the kits only allow one tax schedule at the kit level.  Breaking out the kit would be very confusing to our customers.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to manage this.  Support calls it an enhancement.  Item groups apparently do not work on the webstore either.

We could really use some advice!
