pre-select a matrix product through a variable in the url?

Do you know of anyway we can pre-select a matrix product through a variable in the url?

For instance, if we an item in several colors - Blue, Red, Green and Black - is there a way via URL parameter to have when the user clicks on the URL to arrive at EITHER (a) webpage showing that "color" (such as blue) already preselected in the matrix dropdown; or (b) have just that matrix color displayed as a single item?
