URL Changes/Tracking

I inherited our eCommerce site, which was built a few years ago and I cannot figure out how to remove the URL tracking or category threads that appear when browsing the site.

For instance, the URL is http://www.gopicnic.com/TurkeyPepperoniCheese, but when browsing through categories, it will appear as: http://www.gopicnic.com/TurkeyPepperoniCheese?sc=23&category=-123. Is there any way to avoid or remove this?
