Using CSS or div attribute to hide text in web-store

I need to have the "add to cart" in an item template, but it needs to be hidden.

There is a reason for this and it would take too long to explain.

So, we need this in our template...

<%=getCurrentAttribute('item','addtocarthtml')%>

BUT the actual add-to-cart button needs to be hidden.

I tried CSS and created a new style to hide it.  It didn't work.  I tried DIV style="visibility:hidden" tags and even "display:none".  Nothing seemed to work.

Any ideas?
