Items with a monogram. Charging X amount per letter entered

Is there an easy way (or any way) to have NetSuite charge per letter entered on a web-store item with a custom field for the user to enter their item's monogram?  In fact, in our case the item has zero cost and the only charge is for the letters entered ...which are $3 per letter entered.
