True One Page Reference Checkout (Single Page)

In this day and age, customers like having a simple and straightforward Checkout process. On that note, we'd like to find a solution for a truly One Page Checkout.
This is not production ready. Please do not use the code below as it is an untested idea.

Notes:
Reference Checkout 2.05.0
We are currently using the "The One Page Checkout Scenario" in Configuration.js (Custom Checkout → /js/src/app/Configuration.js)

This is still technically a 2 Page Checkout, due to the "Place Order" step and then the "Review & Place Order" step. We'd like to have the checkout process be as follows:
