Viewing Custom Records in a Customer Dashboard portlet

Is there any way to view the results of a custom record search on the Customer Dashboard? 

I have created a custom record which uses the customer as its parent.  I'd like to view the associated child custom records on the customer dashboard, but cannot seem to be able to do this with either a custom search portlet or list portlet.

Any ideas?
