Global Search

For some reason when I enter for example "BG" in global search as Administrator it shows up all inventory items with part numbers that start with BG, but when I do it as any other role, i.e. Sales Person the result set is empty.  Does this happen to anyone else?  Any suggestions? 

All the items are available by going Lists -> Accounting -> Items,
or even by going through Home -> Quick Search
