Narrowing down the list of lead-sources

Does anyone know of a way to restrict the number of entries for "lead source" in the drop-down menus available to the sales people?

Specifically - I want to be able to achieve two goals:

1) When a lead is created automatically (from a form for example) - the lead source is autopopulated as it is today.

2) When a sales rep enters a lead manually however only SOME of the available lead-sources are displayed to them -so they don't have to navigate through a dozen or so 'sources' to find the right one.
