Campaigns and individually sent emails

What can I do about this?
How can I end up with a campaign analysis that includes email activity?

We want a 360-degree view of communication and activities with customers, all capable of being counted and analyzed by campaign.

It appears, however, that we cannot relate individually sent emails (eg. from a customer or transaction record) to a campaign.

For activities (phone calls, events) I'm able to do this by adding a custom field that sources from Lead Source.
