Search contacts by customer

I'm trying to execute a search to retrieve all contacts for a specific customer. This will be a saved search that will be used in a script, so the search has to be based on the customer's internal id.

So I setup a contact search and for the criteria set Customer (Primary) Fields ... > Internal Id, and specified the correct internal id. This returned no results even though this customer has a large number of contacts. Trying Company (Primary) Fields ... > Internal Id also did not yield any results.

Just to ensure that all this makes sense, I tried Customer (Primary) Fields ... > Name/Id, and entered the customer name, and that worked correctly.
