Solutions need us to imbed HTML BR Codes - is that the way it is supposed to work?

Just started working with some solutions in the NS support area.  I created a number of solutions to various standard issues we have and all looks fine.  However when I attach a solution to a case I get the solution pasted in the solution correctly but it is devoid of carriage returns and line feed (i.e. it is all jumbled up). 

The only way I could get it to work a-ok is to put HTML BR Tags withing the solution description.

Is this the way it is supposed to work or am I just missing a setting?
