Using Barcode Scanner for SO / PO data entry

We're currently having a hard time inputting Sales Order info into netsuite, it's taking far too long. Someone suggested that we prepare a paper catalog with barcodes, then use a barcode scanner to input the items. Does anyone have any advice around this?
