No results for report using expected close date

I have a report which uses the expected close date as a filter for the opportunities returned.  However, no matter what values are input for the expected close date range, no results are returned.  I can use other date ranges, including custom date fields on the opportunity.

Has anyone run into an issue with using "expected close date" in reports as the filter criteria?
