Email template Signature

Hi I am trying to create an email template signature rather than using the one in the user settings.

I am having problems, I am trying to use for the first and last names but these fields show as blank when I send an email, I guess this is because they are trying to take the values from the contact or something.  Is there a variable I can use to take the values of the currently logged on user?

<NLFIRSTNAME> <NLLASTNAME>

Any help is apriciated, I can't believe I am the first person to try this.
