email Template to list items purchased from Sales Order or Fulfillment

I'm helping out the shipping department by creating an email template. It lets the customer know that their items have arrived. I know how to use freemarkers, but I don't see a reference to item list on sales order. How can I insert the items from either the sales order or related item fulfillment into the email template. Is this where suite script or custom tag reference comes into play?

Any lead in the right direction would be appreciated.
