Project Tasks – Automatically populate Service Item

On each employee record we have a custom field "Default Service Item".

When an employee is listed as an "assignee" on a project task, I want the value from the "Default Service Item" to auto-populate the service item field at the assignee level.

Previously I created a script to achieve this using CRM tasks, but I don't seem to be able to get it working on Project Tasks.
