Auto population of Location on line items

hi all another question for you.

Auto population of Location on line items during sales fulfillment or purchase receipt does not appear to work.  However, the location field does autopopulate with Main warehouse on item receipt transactions on purchase orders prompted by the minimum stock level.         

Is this a problem that other people have found or are we doing something wrong  or is this quite normal?  we are only trying stuff out at the moment as we are still to set our system up.
