Units - Bug or by design?

If you have an item that is assigned Units of Measure, you would expect Quantity x Units x Rate = Amount. This works fine if you are using set prices (i.e. Price level A, B, C).

If a sales rep enters a Custom price, the Unit of Measure has no effect on the Amount total, in other words, Quantity x Units x Custom Rate does NOT = Amount.

Is this a bug or am I missing some setting?
