Matrix Items with Assemblies

edited Jan 13, 2009 12:52PM in Accounting / ERP 10 comments

We have a client who sells items online, but does not carry any finished products.  Rather, they assemble the product once an order is taken, and only keep raw goods in inventory.  The product (clothing) dictates using matrix items, but we also would like to use assemblies to track inventory of the raw goods.  NetSuite has an enhancement request (#55393) to allow using Matrix items with Assemblies, but it is currently under review so it is not clear when it will be addresses.
I am wondering if anybody else has faced a similar issue.  We are considering implementing a couple custom fields on the matrix item that would track the raw components that go into the assembly.  Once an item is sold, we would use JavaScript to automatically reduce the inventory of the components.  I believe this is a workable solution, but would require a pretty heavy upfront setup as each matrix item would need to be manually updated with the raw components that are used to build the product.

Howdy, Stranger!
