Simple Question: Invoices

Can you customize the invoice to show the client - that they pre-paid and what the new balance is - Example - client pre-paid $2000.00 - the total amount of the invoice is $2500.00. How can it show on the invoice that they paid $2000.00 and now have a balance of $500.00.
