Changing Accounts on Inventory and Kit Items

We want to change the inventory, income & COGS accounts on some of our items but do not want the history to change.  When i change the account on an item it will update the account on existing transactions.  Is there a way to make this change and not affect prior transactions?  If not what would be the best way to go about making this change?
