Commission recalculation: how long will it take?

I'm just now setting up our commissions and I've created my first set of schedules, plans, etc.  We only have 2 reps and a couple hundred transactions (eligible).

Anyway.. it's been over 20 minutes that the Plan is showing the message:


One Or More Schedules Are Pending Recalculation
Commission data related to this plan may be out-of-date until recalculation is completed



I'm a bit concerned that every time I make a change and want to review the effects I will need to wait 20, 40, 200, ? minutes to see the results.

How long do these calculations typically take?

Is there another method to tweak a schedule/plan and get feedback?
